Driver sunbathes in sizzling 35C heat in MIDDLE of M3 after six-car pile-up shuts motorway

DESPERATE drivers trapped on a stretch of motorway in baking 35 degree heat following a six-car smash are making the best of a bad situation - by sunbathing on the carriageway.

Others have left their cars to walk dogs, and chat to others in the sunshine instead of stay put in roasting hot vehicles following the pile-up which has closed the M3 motorway in Hampshire.

One woman was spotted sunbathing on the road after the six car collision on the southbound stretch of the road.

Police and other emergency services are in attendance at the scene.

At least three people are believed to be injured, but there is no confirmation on how badly.

Drivers are being diverted on to the A303 and are advised to leave plenty of extra time to travel if heading that way.

The road is likely to remain closed for a number of hours.

People across the country are basking in tropical conditions on Tuesday – set to be the hottest day of the year so far.

Swathes of England and Wales are forecast to bake in temperatures clear of 30C on Tuesday while the mercury rises to 29C in Scotland and 28C in Northern Ireland.

But parts of the South East could see temperatures climb as high as 35C – close to the record for July of 36.7C.
