Manchester Airport: Suspicious package found by cops as terminal evacuated over 'serious security ma

HOLIDAYMAKERS were evacuated from Manchester Airport after a suspicious package was found.

Staff and passengers were moved from the airport's Terminal Two after the item was inspected.

There are reports that a package has been blown up by airport authorities as part of a controlled demolition.

One man said his sister and her family had been moved, with staff describing the situation as a "serious security matter".

Another passenger told Manchester Evening News that he had been given no information at the time about what had caused the evacuation.

Flights departing from Terminal Two are believed to be in the process of being moved to Terminal One.

Greater Manchester Police told The Sun: "Police were called with a report of a suspicious package in Terminal 2 of Manchester Airport at around 3.20pm today.

"The terminal has been evacuated as per standard procedure and a cordon has been put in place as a safety precaution while an assessment is carried out."

A Manchester Airport spokesperson said: "All flights will operate from Terminal One until further notice. We thank passengers for their patience and ask them to follow directions given to them by staff."

A taxi driver working at the airport said he had collected passengers who discovered that planes have been grounded for five hours.
