Police cordon off car park after man's body is discovered in stairwell

A BODY has been found in the stairwell of a car park, following reports of a fire.

The body of a man was discovered at about 4am at the car park in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

The death is being treated as "unexplained".

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police officers remain in Tunbridge Wells following the discovery of a body in the stairwell of a public car park in Vale Road.

"Officers were called to the first floor of the car park by Kent Fire and Rescue Service at 4.04am on Tuesday 7 March 2017 after the body of a man was found.

"Kent Police is currently treating the death as unexplained and the car park is likely to remain closed for several hours while officers carry out their investigation."

This is not the first time a body has been found in the car park.

Terry Edmonds was just 17-years-old when her body was found in a suitcase in the car park in 2006.

She had been sexually assaulted before being strangled with her own scarf.

Homeless drifter Philip Bell, 22, who had stayed in Tunbridge Wells for about two years, was convicted of her murder and jailed for life in February 2009.
