Last pictures inside Princess Dianas Kensington Palace home just days after her death reveal lovi

A SERIES of haunting photographs of Princess Diana's home taken days after her death show dozens of family snaps, a sofa full of cuddly toys and a portrait of her on the wall.

The eerie shots of her private apartments give a glimpse into the life of the beloved People's Princess.

The pictures were taken days after she died on August 31 1997, having suffered fatal injuries in a car crash in the Pont de l’Alma road tunnel in Paris.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of her death, with many events being held in her memory.

The striking photographs allow an insight into her life at apartments eight and nine at Kensington Palace - once the marital home of Prince Charles and Diana.

She lived there from 1981 until her death in 1997

They were taken by Paul Burrell, Diana's butler, shortly after her death as an inventory, and include a collection of toys on a sofa.

The photos show the living room, converted from the Prince of Wales' study room, where she would have sat with her sons, Princes William and Harry, while watching television.

This was the room in which she famously recorded the Panorama interview with Martin Basher

Demonstrating her love for her sons, a wall is pictured covered in family shots of her and her two boys.

Mr Burrell told The Mirror: "When the Princess died, I felt it was appropriate to record where she had lived, spent much of her married life and brought up the Princes.

"These interiors were chosen by the Princess. This was the place she called home.

"This is my memory and personal reminder of a place where I lived and worked with this inspirational and unique human being, my friend Diana."

In the days following her death a sea of flowers and tributes were left outside the gates of Kensington Palace in an enormous outpouring of public grief.
