Parents fuming as Toys R Us refuses to refund shoppers after going bust

A MUM claims she was refused a refund after Toys R Us went into administration.

Sarah Barratt was left feeling "ripped off" when staff at the Kingston Retail Park store in Hull told her she wouldn't be getting her money back.

The mum had bought a £23 baby gate, which she claimed was broken, and a £7 extension which didn't fit properly.

She blasted to the Hully Daily Mail: “It’s a disgrace. We have been ripped off and it may be only £7, but it’s principle more than anything.

“I’m now stuck with an extension and can’t do anything with.

“I was fuming. I felt like I’d been robbed because it was £30 with the gate and extension."

She added: “If they are doing that to people, they’re misleading people. It wasn’t our fault. Not one person is saying there are no refunds or exchanges."

After Sarah's husband argued the couple's case, a Toys R Us employee eventually handed over a credit note to reimburse them.

Toys R Us announced to customers last week that it won't fund items for cash unless they are broken, saying: "No exchanges for non-faulty items may be accepted and no refunds will be given."

Shoppers are also no longer able to buy goods online or use the click and collect facility.

The retail giant went bust on Wednesday, putting 3,000 people out of a job.

Attempts to sell the business failed, meaning that the retailer has started plans to close down potentially all of its 106 UK stores.

A statement from Toys R Us said: “Although the company is in administration, all of its stores will continue trading until further notice and much of the stock will be subject to clearance discounts and other special promotions.

“Gift cards and vouchers will continue to be honoured whilst the stores continue to trade, but customers are encouraged to redeem such vouchers as soon as possible as stores may be subject to closure without notice.

“No further gift cards will be sold given the current levels of promotional activity.”
